Win98 Team credits
To see a cool little multmedia presentation of the Windows 98 development team
with pictures and music, follow these steps:
Open Windows Explorer
Go to C:\WINDOWS\Application
Data\Microsoft\WELCOME\
Right-click on Weldata.exe
and hold the mouse-button
Drag to the Desktop and let go of the button
Choose Create Shortcut(s)
Here
-- You can create a shortcut to the Weldata.exe file any way you like --
Right-click on the new shortcut icon, choose Properties,
and make sure you're on the Shortcut
tab.
In the Target
box, type You_are_a_real_rascal
at the end after the stuff that's there --put in a space. So it will look like:
"C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\WELCOME\WELDATA.EXE" You_are_a_real_rascal
(but on one line)
From the Run:
drop-down list, choose Minimized
Click OK
Double-click on the Shortcut icon and watch the fun!

Say hi! to the Winamp 2.xx
Developer
This should work with any Winamp version that starts with 2. Some of the elements
that I name may be different on your Winamp, but you should be able to find
the equivalents.
Start Winamp
Click on the icon on the top left of the toolbar ... looks like a little sine
wave for me.
Choose Nullsoft Winamp...
(might be About
on yours)
You should see a crazy-looking dude with headphones retreating from you on
the screen leaving acid-like traces
Hold CTRL-ALT-SHIFT
and double-click on the Copyright
line
The crazy guy's face will be replaced by ... the developers! His name is Justin,
I've heard :)

Spicing up your icons
You're probably used to seeing the same old icons on your desktop all the time,
and you may not like the automatic icons you get when you make a new Shortcut.
You can change that, though, by finding cool new icons in Windows files. A lot
of icon pics are stored in .dll files (dynamic linked library).
To change the icon on a shortcut , right-click on it and choose Properties.
Make sure you're on the Shortcut tab and then click the Change Icon... button.
You then get a Change Icon window with a white box under File Name. You can
type a full path in there and choose from different, cool-looking icons.
Here are some that I found ... there are TONS more (there are icons in files
that aren't .dll files) so you can cruise around and try to find new ones if
you want.
C:\Windows\System\mslocusr.dll
C:\Windows\System\isign32.dll
C:\Windows\System\iepeers.dll
C:\Windows\System\inetcfg.dll
C:\Windows\System\javacypt.dll
C:\Windows\System\mobsync.dll
C:\Program Files\PLUS!\System\compext.dll
C:\Program Files\Accessories\Hyperterminal\hticons.dll
C:\Windows\System\cool.dll
C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\nmchat.dll
C:\Windows\System\pifmgr.dll
Pretty neat, eh?

Internet Explorer Easter Eggs
Using Slammy's instructions below, I did not get the multiplicity of options
he indicated.
I did however observe, upon clicking the customize button, a small video that
loaded. This video started with a colored Easter Egg breaking open. Inside was
most likely Netscape/Mozilla's Godzilla. With that said, the IE letter e
drops on the head of the great lizard and kills him. All with the saying: IE5
ROCKS!
If this is another Egg, then wonderful!

Internet Explorer Easter Eggs
Another example of bloatware at its best! IE5 has a bunch of hidden
stuff in it, including some pics of people who must be the development team
and other little oddities.
- In IE, select Tools
>> Internet Options and then make sure you're on the General
tab
- Click the Languages
button
- Click the Add
button
- In the User defined
box at the bottom of the window, type ie-ee,
then click the OK
button
- Highlight the line that says User
defined [ie-ee] then click the Move
Up button then the OK
button again
- Back in the normal IE view, click the Search
icon
The left-hand pane now contains a TON of stuff you can play with!!
Though you should spend some time testing all the choices, here are some of
my personal favorites:
- Click the Find Yourself
radio button, fill in something where it says Please
specify where you would like to be found:, and click the Search
button.
- If you click the Previous
searches radio button, you get a list of three links. The last
is a normal link, but the second one (called How
the magic happens) is a MUST see.
- Click the word Customize
near the top of the Search
pane.
Plenty more, so you'll have to check it out yourself.

Hold down 'Ctrl', then click Start / Settings / Taskbar & Start Menu. You'll
notice that a new tab will be there: 'Desk Bar Options'. You can't do anything
with it, but this seems to be an unfinished feature of Windows 98.

Type beer without quotes
instead of volcano as the text
in 3Dtext scr.saver.
It will give you a lot of beer names.
Rob note: Does this work for anyone? It
doesn't work on my system. Maybe it was a Win98 beta thing?

Eject PC?
1) Go to Notepad on the Start Bar and click on Properties
2) Click Change Icon and double click on the same icon again
3) Hover between Start and Shut Down and you'll be able to Eject
your PC
(This feature of Win98 is actually used to eject laptops from a docking station
- but this is a strange way to enable that option on desktops!)
